About me

I am passionate about the transformative power of speaking, listening, and silence—the unique potential that emerges when people come together to talk about things that matter to them.

I have supported learners of all ages and stages, from early years to Phd students, to find and use their voice. I create supportive learning spaces where it is safe enough to take risks; both intellectual and personal risks, such as truly speaking what is on one's mind, considering alternative points of view, yielding to the better argument, and changing one's mind.

I believe that an educator’s role is often to create the right environment—one that provides enough support for learners to take charge of their own learning. I’m not here to tell anyone what to think; my goal is to help them learn how to think for themselves, in the company of others.

I am trained as a philosopher, group facilitator, therapeutic practitioner, and currently training as a psychotherapist. My approach draws from the rich and deep history of philosophy, the healing traditions, and indigenous wisdom.

I also provide training, coaching, and mentoring to educators across the UK and internationally. My work with schools focuses on embedding philosophical teaching and learning across the curriculum.

I am a consultant and registered trainer with SAPERE, DialogueWorks, and Thinking Space. I am also a member of SAPERE's Professional Standards Board.

Maria treats the children with respect and sets up an atmosphere in which they will respect one another too.  No one is ever made to feel that their ideas are wrong or stupid - everyone can say what they think but it is also okay for the children to change their minds
